DSC_0004

This is just freaky. Keep looking at it. I was driving home from the shops today and saw an interesting cloudscape beyond the houses above Dysart. So I parked the car, ran into the house, grabbed my camera bag, and went down to a road called School Brae where I could get an expansive, open view of the sea. I took a few pics, dropped my lens cap which I had to rescue from the drop below, and headed home. This is the first of 8 shots I took.

I didn’t see the face at the time. I only saw a great cloud above the ship and the water. It had passed over our town shortly before, depositing its water on us. When I looked at the images in Lightroom I was delighted to see the image of a face looking down on the ship. Serendipity.

I converted it to black and white and as I increased the contrast the face just got more and more obvious. I then made a few under exposed dashes to highlight some facial features, but only about 3 or 4 strokes with the mouse to bring out the eyes.

The more I stare at it the spookier it gets!

Tremolat1

France, 2014.This was taken on a lovely warm evening, exploring the back roads of Tremolat – a small village near to Limueil where we were staying in the summer. I really didn’t think that I had many decent images this year but looking back through my Lightroom library I have a few that I like. I’ve think been so busy that I haven’t had much time to look at them!

The Lake District Lakes-2 Lakes-3

Here are three images from the top of Haystacks in the Lake District. This was my version of a stag weekend before getting married and my friends were at pains (literally) to point out their suffering of a weekend of arduous walking. Fortunately their shortness of breath meant the comments were few and far between 🙂

Woodland

The boys had been on a laserquest outing for their cousin’s birthday. When I returned to get them a wet mist had moved in and I didn’t have to walk far into the woods to find some eery scenes.

Anglers

This was taken on Saturday morning as I took the dog on his usual route through the harbour and into the park. The high tide had brought out a few early morning anglers and there was a nice soft light coming through the remains of the morning mist.

Birds

Taken from the window of our friends’ house. Their chickens were amusing but cheeky too. They had recently destroyed an outdoor buffet spread by running across the table stealing food and trashing the rest; and you had to be vigilant when eating your dinner in case something disappeared from the plate.

The Sun as a Heart

Another Orkney photo. I am now convinced that Orkney is a place where magical coincidences can be found more frequently than other places I visit. As you can imagine it was fiendishly difficult to get a decent exposure of the sun as the speed just meant blacking out everything else. But I was sure I saw something in the reflections and persevered while trying to avoid burning the retinas in my eyes.

Deerness

This was taken in July on our visit to Orkney.  It was just off the coastal path from near a collapsed sea stack called The Gloup on the far east of the East Mainland. I was struggling to keep the tripod from moving in the wind. I took a few and this one was the sharpest (although not so much when you zoom in!). There is an echo of the previous photo’s composition in this (see Moon Over Orkney).

Moonovermountain

From a stone paving slab in the grounds of the Pier Arts Centre, Stromness, Orkney. I’d like to claim credit for it but I saw my friend Rachel taking a picture and I hovered over her shoulder and she showed me what she had seen. I have worked away at the image to give it that feeling of a northern night.

allium

From the allotment, and a complete break with my usual style here. I was playing around with Lightroom settings and when it comes to colour I tend to go for extremes. Perhaps being slightly colour-blind has something to do with it – unable to differentiate the subtleties of some hues I just crank it up to avoid any doubt!
